Aruba

General

The first Jews settled in Aruba in 1753.  Until 1924, the total Jewish population was less than 30.  However, after 1924, a number of immigrants came to the island from Holland, Surinam and eastern Europe.  A Jewish center was established in 1942, and in 1962, the Beth Israel Synagogue in Oranjestad was dedicated.  The postcard below (postmarked May 12, 1970) depicts the Beth Israel Synagogue.
