Sokolow Podlaski is a town east of Warsaw. At the outbreak of the war, there were 4,000 Jews in the town. The German army entered the town on September 20, 1939, and three days later burned down the local synagogue. The ghetto was established in the summer of 1941 and liquidated in September, 1942. The remaining Jews were deported to Treblinka.
Below are thumbnails of the front and back of three postcards addressed to the ghetto in Sokolow Podlaski. The first card is dated November 2, 1940 and sent from Minneapolis. The second is dated March 24, 1941 and sent from Brooklyn. The final card is dated October 24, 1941 and sent from Paris. Each card has German censor markings.
