Aachen, Germany

 

General

    Aachen is a city of the German-Belgian border with a Jewish community dating back to the early ninth century.  At the start of World War II, there were about 3,500 Jews in Aachen vicinity.  A small Jewish still exists.  The synagogue depicted in the postcard below was built in 1862, and was destroyed during Kristallnacht.
