The postcard below depicts the synagogue in Kansk, a town in Siberia. In 1897, there were about 34,000 Jews in Siberia. During the early years of Soviet rule, many Jews left Siberia. However, during World War II, large numbers of Jewish refugees from German occupied areas reached Siberia. According to the 1959 census, almost 60,000 Jews lived in Siberia.
