Tiberias

General

Tiberias is a city on the western shore of the Sea of Galilee and is the largest city in the Jordan Valley.  The city was built by Herod's son between 14 and 18 c.e.  After the fall of the Second Temple, Tiberias became the religious center of the country.  It was the seat of a famous Rabbinic assembly and numerous synagogues.  The city is also the site of tombs of venerated Rabbis, inculding, Meir Bal Ha Ness.  The postcard below depicts the Sephardic Synagogue, and at the far right, the synagogue housing the tomb of Rabbi Meir Bal Ha Ness.
